With so many NL only leagues forcing owners to start two catchers you may want to expand the list to 25-30. Candidates include Coste (NYM), Schneider (PHI backup) and late season callups Buster Posey, Derek Norris, Juan Castro, Tony Sanchez, Josh Thole, Jonathan Lucroy.
Why so down on Soto? Ranking him below Pudge — who is in his late 30’s and I doubt starts more than 75 games with a superior option in Flores on the team — is rather peculiar.
First off, thanks for the interest in the site. It’s my pet project besides my work and my family.
I am totally against the 2-catcher format for NL-only leagues, works fine in mixed leagues, but with only a handful of usable options it makes it a throwaway roster spot. I would rather see a league with 4 to 5 OF spots or a MI and/or CI roster spot. Right now the rankings are built on players you can actually draft through Yahoo’s site. Most of those catcher prospects are not yet in their system. I am working on a call-up/prospect list for NL-only leagues.
I ranked Pudge ahead of Soto because I feel that Soto may have peaked in his rookie season and I don’t trust a player that loses alot of weight and gives that as his goal of off-season conditioning. Flores is also an injury risk and the Nationals will want to put as many “name” players on the field as they possibly can to put people in the seats. We will see how that works out.
